this is arguably my favorite response to this nonsense, mostly because “unvarnished scum”
lol has this person ever seen the makeupalley nail board (for starters; let’s not even get into the whole rich history of nail art in urban Black and Latin@ culture, if we wanna start shit about “appropriation”)
but yeah, straight women have been doing this shit forever, and idgaf as long as they don’t try to claim it’s queer (which the vast majority of them haven’t, because srsly no1curr about femme-flagging)
This makes me feel kind of weird because I’ve been doing it since I was like, twelve? I don’t know if you can just come along and claim that a certain super-basic aesthetic is yours and that no one else can use it. I mean, I’m going to keep doing it, I’m not going to call it queer-flagging, but it just seems really difficult to take something that women have been doing for decades and try to make it exclusively yours. Not saying that you don’t deserve to, just saying it’s not well established.

It is not appropriation if someone just up and decides to attribute meaning to an otherwise arbitrary act that people have been doing for years and years and years before the meaning was applied to it.
