Last night was my least favorite episode so far this season. Maybe ever. I am not a fan of the whole “Oh the poor misunderstood monsters!” meme. I get the whole “Not always your fault you’re a monster” but I don’t like it when people forget the victims in favor of the villains. I also really don’t like it when shows do what I call fanfic episodes, where they have a huge storyline, but none of the main characters or even peripheral characters are in it, they just appear at the sidelines to kind of remind you what show you’re watching. They did it in Doctor Who a couple times, and I didn’t like those episodes either, although I know they are fan favorites.
I really didn’t care at all about any of the three characters in this episode. They weren’t likeable, or interesting, and I didn’t care if they lived or died. Just not invested in them at all, in any way. I suppose it was nice Dean & Sam let the girl go, with the understanding that if she kills someone (which they will then be partially responsible for) they will have to go kill her then. I guess it’s compassionate, but it also seems a little like giving up. Like, she’s not exactly a huge threat, and we have more important things to do then hunting some newbie werewolf. So, solid time/resource management, too.
Can’t wait until next week, when I can watch Supernatural again, instead of Chronicle 2: Werewolf Edition, with special guest stars Dean & Sam.
